This is a film of a car racing through Paris. It premiered at the 1978 Toronto Film Festival.

Lelouch filmed this movie using his own Mercedes 450SEL 6.9. We know this because he has given interviews and in 2006 did a documentary about it and re-drove the route in the same type of car. He wanted to use the Mercedes because the soft suspension helped during filming. Lelouche did a film in 2006 called "the making of C'était un rendezvous" and he talks about using his own Mercedes 450 SEL 6.9. He drove the car himself, and there were two others in the car with him. He stated that at times he passed 200 km per hour (120mph). Outside sources have estimated that he actually reached 136 mph. The sound of the Ferrari was dubbed later, after he re-drove the course in his own Ferrari 275 GTB and taped the sound. This actually makes a great deal of sense because the Mercedes only has a three speed gearbox. The empty streets also indicate that this was filmed on an early Sunday morning- notice the empty the roundabout at L'arc du Triomphe.

A french friend of mine told me that every Frenchman drives likes this whenever he has a rendezvous with a pretty girl. II can see the motivation.

Notable Scenes:

Alexander Roy did his own version of Rendezvous and writes about it in his book The Driver. He has been driving in international road rallies since 2003. He finished first in the 2006 Gumball 3000. With his shaved head and ability to outthink his fellow rally participants, he is known as the Dr. Evil of the road rally scene. Roy is coproducing and will also be featured in the upcoming movie 32 Hours, 7 Minutes about the legendary fastest drive from New York to L.A. in 1983. When he is not on the road, he lives in New York City. The Driver is his first book.

Cool video. Too bad I was not able to see this film. But at least now I was able to have a glimpse of. It seems that his car got really tough mercedes benz parts. Really amazing.
